STDs Posted on May 24, 2012, by

Sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s) are caused by infections that are passed from one person to another during sexual contact. One in two young people will get a sexually transmitted disease (STD) by age 25- and most won’t know it. These infections often do not show any symptoms. Medically, infections are only called diseases when they cause symptoms – this is why STD’s are also called STI’s.

The good news is we can protect ourselves and each other from STD’s. Practicing safer sex allows you to reduce your risk of getting or giving someone a sexually transmitted disease. Family Planning of SCNY provides HIV and STD testing, treatment, and counseling. To learn more about each STD click on the link.
